PIZZA HUTŪ PROVIDES POPULAR SIDE ITEMS IN ALL-IN-ONE PACKAGE

DALLAS (April 26, 2006) — Pizza Hut® announced the introduction of Side Sampler today, becoming the only national pizza chain to offer popular side items in one package.
Side Sampler includes five chicken wings with ranch sauce, an order of breadsticks with marinara sauce and an order of cinnamon sticks with icing. Side Sampler is available nationwide for a limited time at participating Pizza Hut restaurants for $5.99 with the purchase of any large pizza at menu price.
“Our consumer insights showed that people want more than one side item to complete their meal,” said Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer, Pizza Hut. “Side Sampler allows customers to sample and share three sides while mixing three flavor combinations.”
The three-in-one packaging of Side Sampler eliminates the sometimes tough decision of selecting a side item. Breadsticks remain Pizza Hut’s most popular side choice followed by chicken wings and cinnamon sticks.
Food trends point to the increased popularity of mixing more than one flavor combination in a meal. In a recent online survey conducted by ithink_inc, 600 people out of more than 1.5 million Internet users were asked which of the three flavor combinations they prefer: sweet with salty, salty with spicy or sweet with spicy. Forty percent of the respondents revealed they prefer sweet with salty food. More than 33 percent preferred sweet with spicy food followed by 26 percent selecting salty with spicy food.
Additionally, when asked what would be the main reason to order a sampling of side items containing chicken wings, breadsticks and cinnamon sticks, 48 percent of survey respondents said “to give variety.”
